  • Austin Food & Wine Alliance names board members
    The Austin Food & Wine Alliance has selected its first board of directors. The board members will lead the organization’s key initiatives including providing grants to community nonprofits, individuals and businesses based on culinary innovation. Dozens of applicants were vetted by a committee of former Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival board members and culinary professionals.   • Cirque Du Soleil bringing show to Cedar Park
    The traveling artists from Cirque Du Soleil are coming to Cedar Park to present Quidam, the story of a young girl who relies on her imagination to escape a mundane existence. Much is required to put on such a large performance, from hiring doctors and massage therapists to finding a hotel to bunk its cast, and area businesses are the main benefactors. Officials with Cirque Du Soleil have already sought out area businesses and individual people to fill many roles, including: •100 hotel rooms; •100 local technicians from the Austin area are hired to perform tasks such as rigging, lighting, sound and carpentry; •doctors, dentists and massage therapists; •a local gym; •dishwashers, wardrobe dressers, laundry and local public relations help; •ushers, concessions, fire, police and emergency management personnel; •and six chefs to cook lunch and dinner for Cirque employees and other workers...


  • 2310 South Lamar has a new owner
    A unknown buyer has purchased 2310 South Lamar, a 4,229-square-foot retail center in South Austin. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Brad Bailey and Logan Reichle with The Weitzman Group handled negotiations on behalf of the landlord. The brokerage team received many offers on the property, officials with The Weitzman Group said.   • Survey: Baby Boomers don't plan to retire any time soon
    In a nationally distributed survey of business owners, more than half of those owners who were born during the Baby Boomer generation said they are planning to work well beyond their retirement age. Of those who responded to MPN Inc.’s survey, a total of 62.8 percent, or almost two out of three, said they would retire from regular business activity in either "more than 10 years" or "never."
